Confernce Venue:
Hall of the Interamerican Institute of Human Rights
(one block west and 3/4 block south from the Spoon Bakery in Las Yoses)
This conference will be hosted in San Jose, Costa Rica. Costa Rica recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of the abolition of the military, and has a long history of participation in United Nations initiatives concerning peace and human rights.
Costa Rica is an active member of the United Nations and the Organization of American States. The Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the United Nations University of Peace are based in Costa Rica. The Costa Rican State is also a member of many other international organizations related to human rights and democracy.
Costa Rica is also a member of the International Criminal Court, without a Bilateral Immunity Agreement of protection for the US-military (as covered under Article 98).
As a champion of international human rights and peace, Costa Rica should play a leading role in the ban of uranium weapons. We are hoping that in hosting this international conference, Costa Rica will become the second country (after Belgium) to pass a local ban on these weapons.
Further details on the venue for the conference will be available soon.
